Severe thunderstorm watch issued for Okanagan, southern interior B.C.

By CityNews Staff

A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for parts of southern interior B.C., just in time to wrap up the long weekend.

The Environment Canada advisory covers the Okanagan, including Kelowna, Vernon, and Penticton, as well as the Fraser Canyon, Shuswap, South Thompson, Boundary, and Nicola regions.

In addition to lightning, the agency says conditions are favourable for a storm that could produce strong wind gusts, large hail, and heavy rain.

Downpours could trigger some localized flooding and pooling on roadways.

“Lightning kills and injures Canadians every year,” the advisory reads in part, adding people should head inside when they hear thunder.
