Those Little Donuts rejected by PNE in 2022

A fan favourite at the PNE Fair has apparently been told “thanks, but no thanks.” The operators of a “Those Little Donuts” say their application has been rejected.

On Facebook, the operators quote the fair as telling them:

“The PNE Food Committee regrets to inform you that your applications have not been accepted to participate at the PNE Fair as we already have similar products.”

PNE media relations spokesperson Laura Ballance tweeted on Monday afternoon clarifying the fair will have three independent mini donut vendors.

“Including the ORIGINAL mini donut family who have been in the mini donut business since 1968,” Ballance wrote. “We selected the 3 vendors we believe best meet our operational criteria.”

It’s true, several fair vendors sell mini donuts. However, fans of Those Little Donuts are not happy their favourites won’t be among them this summer.

“What?! Ugh!!! The “similar” products don’t compare to yours,” reads one of many comments on Those Little Donuts’ Facebook post.

“I’d like to say that many stands sell corn dogs…(one of many examples) they ALL taste exactly the same and look EXACTLY the same??” reads another.

Fair-goers can often be found crowded at the counter, entertained by watching the little machines dispense the donut dough into little rings that travel along a conveyer belt in hot oil. They’re left undisturbed, save for one expertly timed flip.

Fans say Those Little Donuts is the main reason they go to the fair, adding the “iconic” treats are family tradition.

The PNE Fair opens on Saturday.
