ICBC says its systems are back up and running after “widespread service disruptions” were reported Tuesday morning.
The auto insurer says it experienced an outage that affected a number of its services, including issuing new policies and insurance renewals.
While the cause of the disruption is still under investigation, ICBC says it “can confirm at this time that it was not a hack or any kind of cyber attack.”
“The issue started with a power disruption at our data centre and that had a ripple effect throughout our network. Fortunately, we were able to bring our systems back online after a relatively short period of time and now everything is back up and running,” the insurer said in an email to CityNews Tuesday afternoon.
Systems outage update: our services are returning after this morning's outage. We will continue to provide updates via our website and Twitter account. We appreciate your patience and apologize for the inconvenience. https://t.co/SuB7YPyzbC

In replies on social media, ICBC earlier said its online system was also affected by the outage. In addition to insurance services, booking driving tests and issuing licences were also affected by the outage.
“Road tests were able to proceed and we were able to take claim reports from customers by phone,” ICBC added.
Tuesday’s outage came after the insurer notified customers late Monday that its driver licensing appointment booking system was hit by technical issues.
Our driver licensing appointment booking system is experiencing technical issues at the moment. Road test bookings are not affected.
We are investigating the issue and we apologize for any inconvenience.
