Homicide investigators have released the identity of one of two men killed in a shooting in Coquitlam Wednesday, saying the case is linked to the ongoing Lower Mainland gang conflict.
Officers were called to the area of Dawes Hill Road and Mundy Street around 7:45 p.m. When they arrived, they found three people in a vehicle.
Sgt. Timothy Pierotti with the Integrated Homicide Investigation Team says one man died at the scene, while another succumbed to his injuries at hospital.

A third person was also hurt, though his injuries were non-life-threatening.
“Investigators are identifying one of the victims as 25-year-old Ramin Salam of Coquitlam in hopes of advancing our investigation,” said Pierotti of one of the two men killed in what is being described as a targeted incident.
“Through our research so far, of course it’s still preliminary, but we believe that he is associated to the Lower Mainland gang conflict, that he has associates that have been identified through police checks, to be associated to that.”
The second man killed is still being identified. Pierotti says the third person who survived is also believed to have gang associates.

It’s unclear if the third person has been able to provide a statement yet.
A burning car was found in Surrey a short time after the Coquitlam call came in. Pierotti says IHIT is working with the Surrey RCMP to figure out if the two cases are linked.
