Mount Seymour Provincial Park parking passes return this December

If you’re planning on some backcountry snowshoeing or winter hiking in North Vancouver, the B.C. government is warning that day-use parking passes will be required again this year for Mount Seymour Provincial Park.

As of Dec. 15, you will need a free, vehicle pass if you want to park in the mountain’s upper lots (P1 and lower P5).

They’re available online, in four-hour increments for the morning and afternoon. A pass can only be booked up to two days in advance.

The province says day passes are meant to keep crowds down and help protect the park.

If you are a skier or boarder with a pass for Mount Seymour Resort, you don’t need the provincial day pass.

Given limited cell service in the area, it’s recommended people print or download a copy of their pass before getting to the park.

According to the government, more than 1.1 million people visited Mount Seymour Provincial Park in 2020. That marked a 20 per cent increase from 2018.

The province notes the increase in visitors led to limited parking spots as well as congestion on local roads and in facilities.
