City of Delta warns of ‘very high’ flood risks Monday morning

City of Delta officials are warning residents of “very high” flood risks with an expected significant storm surge Monday morning.

They said the warning stems from a forecast that calls for an “extreme high tide” at around 8:40 a.m., which will be accompanied by strong winds.

In a statement, City staff said neighbourhoods in Beach Grove and Boundary Bay are at a “very high” risk of flooding. They said that chance of flooding carries over into Tuesday morning.

Delta officials said they will proceed to Stage 3 of its flood preparedness plan in response to the upcoming flood risk.

The statement said portable pumps and generators will be brought to the area and City staff will be monitoring conditions and providing assistance.

Residents were encouraged to take precautions. The City has sand and sandbags available at Seaview Road, the 1A Avenue boat launch, the 3rd Avenue beach access, and the 16th Avenue beach access.
