Feeling lucky? You can bet on which B.C. hospital will deliver the first baby of 2023

If betting on sporting events isn’t enough for gamblers, there are odds available to bet on which B.C. hospital will deliver the province’s first baby in 2023.

According to PlayNow.com, a handful of Lower Mainland hospitals are among the betting favourites to welcome the first baby of the year.

The “no surprise” favourite, the website says, is B.C. Women’s Hospital with 3.50 odds. That means a $10 bet would pay out $35 based on the odds for that hospital.

Other favourites include Surrey Memorial hospital with 5.00 odds, and Royal Columbian Hospital at 8.00 odds, the latter winning the honour in both 2019 and 2020.

The longest odds of any Lower Mainland facility is St. Joseph’s General Hospital with 50 to one odds.

Outside the Lower Mainland, Victoria General Hosptial and Kelowna General Hospital have 11.00 and 18.00 odds, respectively.

The betting lines will be open until 6 a.m. on New Year’s Eve on PlayNow’s website.
