The bike lane ran through Park Drive, next to one-way traffic. It was installed in April 2020 as part of the previous park board’s Stanley Park Mobility Plan. In Nov. 2021, the previous park board voted to keep the temporary bike lane until the study was completed and recommendations were put forward.
In its election campaign, ABC Vancouver promised to build an “improved” version of the bike lane. This December, the park board commissioners, now made up of a majority from that party, voted to remove the bike lane.

Cycling advocates wanted the park board to consider the Stanley Park Mobility Plan before rushing to make changes to the infrastructure. Advocates say the park board was taking a step backward when they voted to remove the bike lane without committing to install an improved bike lane by the summer of next year.
Future plans for the removal include taking out all traffic signs, concrete barriers, and line painting. It’s expected to be completed by the Spring of 2023.
