Alleged soup-throwing shoplifter arrested: Vancouver police

A man who is accused of throwing hot soup in the face of an elderly convenience store worker over the weekend has been arrested and charged, according to Vancouver police.

The Vancouver Police Department (VPD) says the incident happened at a downtown store on Sunday night.

Police say the 70-year-old employee tried to stop a would-be shoplifter when the suspect, who was carrying a cup of instant noodles, allegedly threw the soup at her face.

The woman was injured in the incident and is recovering, police say.

Shortly after the altercation, officers arrested the suspect nearby after a witness called 911.

The suspect has been charged with assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm and theft.

He appeared in court on Monday and has been released on bail.
