Toronto Maple Leafs to host 2024 NHL All-Star Weekend

The National Hockey League announced Saturday that the Toronto Maple Leafs will host the 2024 NHL All-Star Weekend at Scotiabank Arena, with the skills showcase taking place on Friday, Feb. 2, 2024 and the All-Star game on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2024.

“We are thrilled to bring the Honda NHL All-Star Game back to Toronto for the ninth time, and to shine a spotlight on our current stars in a setting that evokes over a century of League history,” said NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman in a press conference.

The announcement comes over the current All-Star weekend that is taking place in Sunrise, Florida.

“Toronto fans are among the most knowledgeable and passionate in our game and the city’s rich hockey history dates back to the creation of the sport. What better place to play host to our annual midseason celebration of the best and brightest in the NHL?” said Bettman.

The Maple Leafs hosted the first official NHL All-Star Game in 1947, which had the defending Stanley Cup champion play against a selection of All-Stars from the other five teams.

The 2024 event will be the ninth time the Maple Leafs and the city of Toronto host NHL All-Star weekend.

“We’re really excited to welcome hockey fans from all around the world, and the best players,” said Maple Leafs president Brendan Shanahan, who played in the game the last time it was held in Toronto back in 2000.

“We love our hockey and we love to celebrate the game.”

It will be the first men’s professional sports All-Star Game in Toronto since the Raptors hosted the NBA All-Star Game in 2016 – an event most remembered for the frigid weather in the city.

“Going to be a little colder than here,” Maple Leafs forward Mitch Marner said before taking the ice at this year’s midseason classic for the Atlantic Division in South Florida.

“It’s gonna be fun.”

Marner was just shy of his third birthday the last time Toronto hosted the all-star game.

“I asked Mitch how old he was for that one and he was quite young,” Shanahan said. “He didn’t remember, so I lied to him and told him I won the car – wasn’t true.”
