A man on Vancouver Island is facing an attempted murder charge after police say he shot a vehicle during an instance of road rage in Nanaimo over the weekend.
The Nanaimo RCMP say officers got reports of the incident around 1 p.m. on Sunday at Boxwood Road and Northfield Road.
Police say witnesses told them two vehicles were involved in a road rage incident along Nanaimo Parkway before they stopped for a red light at the intersection.
That’s when police say a man got out of one of the vehicles holding a gun and shot at the other. That prompted “multiple” 911 calls, police say.
Investigators tracked the vehicle that had been shot at to a home, where they say a 17-year-old told them their Pontiac Sunfire had been hit with gunfire.
Mounties say an older Jeep Wrangler was eventually found in nearby Ladysmith where they found “several” firearms.
Reza Rahiman of Ladysmith was arrested and appeared in court Monday. He was charged with attempted murder and discharging a firearm with the intent to harm. Police say he remains in custody.
Anyone with dash cam footage or who saw the road rage incident is asked to contact the Nanaimo RCMP non-emergency line at 250-754-2345 and quote file # 2023-4128.
