TransLink offering free transit if you scrap your old vehicle

TransLink is partnering up with a local non-profit to offer free transit in exchange for your old vehicles.

The transit authority says customers with the SCRAP-IT program can receive a stored value Compass card with $50 per month for 16 months.

Based on the fares, the stored monthly value would be good for about 20, one-zone rides on transit, including buses, SkyTrain, SeaBus, and the West Coast Express.

SCRAP-IT offers incentives to people who want to scrap their vehicles, including rebates for transit, carsharing, and e-bikes. The non-profit says its goal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and lower exhaust pollutants across B.C.

“SCRAP-IT is committed to reducing the environmental impact of vehicles on our communities,” said the organization’s CEO, Diane Roberts. “We are excited to continue our partnership with TransLink and offer this new incentive to customers who make a positive impact on the environment.”

It is not the only incentive TransLink offers through the program. There are also options for an eight-month, one-zone monthly pass or a 14-month three-zone concession pass.
