Downtown Eastside shooting sends one to hospital, police say

The Vancouver Police Department says a man was taken to the hospital after a shooting in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside Sunday.

Police say the 31-year-old man suffered multiple gunshot wounds after he was shot near Columbia and East Hastings Street around 2:30 p.m.

In a statement, the VPD says some officers were working along East Hastings Street when the man was repeatedly shot by another man.

“While some officers stayed to care for the injured man, others tracked the suspect as he fled from East Hastings to Chinatown, where he was arrested moments later,” police said.

According to police, the suspect is in his 30s and is originally from Alberta, while the victim was not a resident of the Downtown Eastside.

The victim was seriously hurt, however, police say he’s expected to survive.
