B.C. pop singer Shawn Hook battling cancer

A JUNO-nominated singer from B.C. is battling cancer.

Shawn Hook took to Twitter on Monday to announce that he has been diagnosed with throat cancer.

“You may have noticed I’ve been a little absent since my last show in January,” he tweeted. “The week before that show I had noticed a bump on my neck and I decided to get it checked out by my Dr. Unfortunately, on January 31st, I was diagnosed with throat cancer.”

“As you can imagine, this was life changing news and it hit me like a ton of bricks. However, this is a treatable kind of cancer and the cure rates are on the higher side,” he wrote.

The singer says he has already had surgery to treat the cancer, which “went well”, he tweeted.

Hook has been active in the music industry since 2004. He wrote music for a number of ABC television shows before releasing his own music in the 2010s. His songs “Take me Home” and “Reminding Me” are among his most popular.

The Castlegar, B.C. native has been nominated for two JUNO awards during his career. First in 2013 for Breakthrough Artist of the Year, and again in 2016 for the Fan Choice Award.
