BC Liberals to officially rebrand as BC United next week

The BC Liberal Party will start going by its new name next week.

The party is officially rebranding as BC United at a launch event on Wednesday.

This comes after a vote was held last year, with Leader Kevin Falcon saying at the time that 80 per cent of Liberal members voted to go ahead with the new name, which was chosen out of more than 2,000 other suggestions.

“For more than 20 years, our party’s name has been a constant topic of debate. A strong vote for BC United marks a new beginning,” Falcon said on Nov. 16.

“I’m excited to move forward as BC United because it really reflects our big tent party, united for a common purpose of making life better for British Columbians.”

The party says the vote came after it consulted with members across B.C. following a June convention resolution.

The Liberals registered “BC United” with Elections BC last year, but note the party will “retain registration of the BC Liberal name, and all associated domains, to avoid any other party obtaining its use.”

Branding experts have previously said the new potential name signals the party is going for a more contemporary moniker.

Falcon will be joined by caucus and party members at a Surrey hotel for the rebrand Wednesday.
