Truck clips Abbotsford Hwy 1 overpass, delays caused

A stretch of Highway 1 heading eastbound through Abbotsford is clearing up after a truck struck the Peardonville Road overpass Monday afternoon.

According to the BC Highway Patrol, it happened around 1:30 p.m. when a commercial vehicle carrying a large load struck the overpass. Mounties say no one was hurt, but another vehicle was damaged by debris from the overpass.

Engineering crews have been called in to assess the damage to the structure, police add.

The patrol unit adds charges are being considered against the driver of the commercial vehicle as its load “appears to be an over height issue” and is in violation of their licence.

Video shared on Twitter of the incident appears to show a flat-bed truck carrying an excavator smashing into the overpass.
