Vancouver International Auto Show to return in 2024

It’s time to start your engines because the Vancouver International Auto Show is set to return in 2024.

After a four-year hiatus, organizers are promising a “re-imagined” format and an “elevated” consumer experience.

Blair Qualey, the president and CEO of the New Car Dealers Association of BC, says he is excited to be back.

“It’s so exciting and exhilarating. I can’t really express it after having to cancel our 100th-anniversary show four years ago. It’s pretty exciting to be able to say we’re coming back next year,” he said.

He says due to pandemic challenges, and then supply chain issues, there was an extended hiatus — but that is coming to a close.

“Last year, we thought we were on the way to being able to do it, but then for a variety of reasons, we thought, yeah, ‘no, we’d rather put on a good show at the right time.’ And this coming year next year seems to be that opportunity,” Qualey said.

He says there will be lots to see in the show, adding the organization will be announcing more plans leading up to the show date.

“I think you’re going to find the next show will be a lot more experiential. We’ve had green ride n’ drives for many, many years, but we’re going to sort of elevate that take that up a little a notch or two.”

Qualey says there have been leaps and bounds in technology over the last few years, adding there will be new updates on that side as well

“We want to get back to showcasing what is very much a technology story in our sector, but also the fun side. So you’ll get a chance to see some exhibits that you might not have had in the past and hopefully some exciting concept vehicles and a few other things we have up our sleeve,” he said.

Premier David Eby says he’s excited to see the show, which has been a long-time staple in the city.

“The Vancouver International Auto Show is not just a lot of fun; it provides a significant economic boost for our province. I am excited for the reimagined show, ELEVATE, to return, welcoming back auto enthusiasts and industry professionals. I am thrilled to see the focus on advanced technology and zero emissions vehicles that will be showcased throughout the event, leading to a cleaner future,” he said in a news release.

The show is set to run from March 20 to 24 in 2024 at the Vancouver Convention Centre West.

“The showcase will highlight the latest in vehicle developments, including Zero Emission Vehicles (ZEVs), full battery electric, plug-in hybrids, hydrogen, and fuel-efficient vehicles, along with advanced vehicle safety systems, and charging advancements,” a news release reads.
