Police incident in North Vancouver ends with ‘positive resolution’

Mounties in North Vancouver say the police incident that shut down Highway 1 in both directions ended with “a positive resolution” Monday.

Police say officers were called around 9:30 a.m. for reports of a man “acting erratically” along Mosquito Creek Trail under an Upper Levels highway overpass.

Mounties say officers found a man “in an apparent mental health crisis,” adding he had several makeshift weapons.

He also threatened officers and became aggressive, police say.

Specialized teams were called in, and both the trail and highway were closed during the afternoon rush.

Around 1:30 p.m., police say the man was apprehended under the Mental Health Act and taken to the hospital.

During the incident, police asked the public to avoid the area and said there was no risk to public safety.
