Fraser Health makes ER wait times available online

Amid controversial claims surrounding emergency rooms (ERs) and more at Surrey Memorial Hospital, Fraser Health is making some ER wait times public and accessible online.

According to a release, this is due to what Fraser Health calls a “busy and unpredictable” nature of emergency departments across the region.

“Over the past fiscal year, we have seen a seven per cent increase in emergency department visits compared to pre-pandemic levels,” the release reads.

“This new information about the emergency departments will help patients and families make informed decisions about accessing care. These estimates help demonstrate how long it may take to see a physician and the expected length of stay in the emergency department.”

Fraser Health says this information will help patients and families make informed decisions about accessing care.

However, they still urge anyone with a sudden health issue to immediately seek emergency care.

Fraser Health adds it sees over 2,000 people visit its various ERs daily.

It is also among the last in the area to add ER wait times, as this information was already available for an array of hospitals and urgent care facilities under the jurisdiction of Vancouver Coastal Health.
