Pickup truck crashes into Burnaby construction site

Mounties in Burnaby are looking for witnesses after a crash at a construction site left one person hurt Monday.

The RCMP says a pickup truck crashed in the area of Beta Avenue near Dawson Street just after 9 a.m.

Investigators report witnesses described seeing the white Toyota Tacoma crash into a concrete block, which then hit another car parked at the site.

The pickup truck is then said to have reversed and crashed into a wood pallet that was “holding construction materials.”

The cause of the crash is not yet clear. However, the RCMP says the driver of the pickup — a 40-year-old man — was unconscious when officers arrived.

The man was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No one else was hurt, the RCMP adds.

“Investigators are currently looking into all factors of the collision, including the possibility of driver impairment,” said Corp. Mike Kalanj. “It is fortunate nobody else was injured in this incident.”

Mounties are asking anyone who may have seen the crash or who has dashcam footage of the incident or the truck prior to the crash to contact investigators at 604-646-9999 and quote file number 23-19787.
