Washington robbery suspect arrested while trying to run across Canadian border

A suspect in an armed robbery in Washington state was apprehended by Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) officers after a dramatic chase caught on video last weekend.

Videos posted on TikTok Sunday show the chase that appears to have taken place at Peace Arch Park. One video shows a white vehicle speeding across the grassy plain between lanes before interjecting into the border lineup.

Another video shows a man exiting the vehicle and running toward the border crossing.

Washington State Patrol (WSP) confirms to CityNews on Sunday afternoon, a TJ Maxx store was robbed, with a suspect attempting to flee police. The agency says a local reported the vehicle being driven by the suspect was heading toward the border crossing in Blaine, at which point border agents were notified.

Troopers say the suspect rammed into a WSP patrol vehicle at the crossing, then attempted to run into Canada.

The CBSA confirms to CityNews that around 5:30 p.m. Sunday, agents “intercepted” an individual who was running northbound toward the border crossing. The agency says the man was interviewed and transferred to the WSP.

State troopers say the suspect, a Washington man, was driving a stolen vehicle and was not licensed to drive. Officers are said to have seized an airsoft gun as part of the arrest.

WSP trooper Kelsey Harding tells CityNews the suspect is facing charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, and felony assault in connection with the border crossing chase.

“It was great work by several agencies to work together to get the suspect into custody. It’s great to be able to call into the border patrol and have them assist us in apprehending somebody,” she said.
