A dog in Chilliwack has another chance at life after fire crews say it was revived with CPR and oxygen following a large fire early Sunday morning, but two cats did not survive the blaze.
In a news release, the Chilliwack Fire Department says crews were called to the area of Carleton Street and First Avenue after midnight.
Crews arrived to find a single-family home “heavily involved in fire,” the department notes, which then spread to multiple vehicles and onto the roof of a nearby duplex.
“Fire crews secured a water supply and aggressively attacked the fast-moving fire with multiple hose streams. Crews were challenged by a large volume of fire, live electrical lines on the ground and nearby structures and vehicles,” the news release reads.
No people were hurt in the blaze, but two pet cats died. The department adds a pet dog was revived after crews performed CPR for several minutes.
Both the home and half of the duplex are facing heavy smoke, water, and fire damage, whereas the other side of the duplex was only lightly damaged by smoke.
Roughly two dozen firefighters responded to the blaze.
The fire is still under investigation.
