The body of a Surrey man who had gone missing last month at Cultus Lake was recovered Tuesday.
The RCMP says the 22-year-old’s body was found midday by dive teams. It adds the man’s “death remains under investigation by the BC Coroners Service.”
The Chilliwack RCMP previously said it was called to the popular lake around 5:15 p.m. on July 19 for reports of a possible drowning. At the time, Mounties said witnesses reported Ajay Singh did not resurface after he jumped into the water to help a friend he thought was drowning.

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to this man’s family and friends,” Sgt. Krista Vrolyk of the Chilliwack RCMP said Tuesday. “We are so sorry for your loss.”
Dive teams had been searching for Singh since he was first reported missing. The RCMP notes this is the fourth drowning in the area “in the span of four weeks.”
“These deaths are devastating to family and friends but also take its toll on emergency personnel,” Mounties add.
