A sushi vending machine at a Metro Vancouver SkyTrain station has been vandalized.
It’s only been about three weeks since it was unveiled.
A TransLink spokesperson confirmed the vandalism with CityNews, saying the damage at Lafarge Lake–Douglas Station was reported Friday morning.
“We are working with the vendor to repair the damage, and the incident is currently under investigation,” a statement reads, with no further details available.
TransLink announced on Aug. 3 that it was partnering with three local small businesses to bring new flavours to the transit system.
In addition to sushi from Sushi Mori, vending machines offering Italian subs from Nicli Pizzeria and Filipino frozen desserts from Khaykery Bakery were announced.
The vending machines are part of a year-long pilot project. Along with Lafarge Lake–Douglas Station, they are being tested at the Lonsdale Quay SeaBus Terminal, Coquitlam Central Station, with plans to install others along the transit system.
No further information about the vandalism has been shared, but images of the machine show the glass shattered and the cases empty.
It’s unclear how long repairs may take.
