NHLer Shea Theodore to bring Stanley Cup to Aldergrove

The Stanley Cup is coming to town.

Aldergrove native Shea Theodore is set to bring the NHL championship trophy to his hometown on Tuesday, after the Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Florida Panthers in June.

The Cup will be on display at the Aldergrove Credit Union Community Centre on Fraser Highway between 1 p.m. and 3 p.m., with exclusive access beforehand for Aldergrove Minor Hockey Association registered players.

B.C. has three connections to the Golden Knights. In addition to Theodore, goalies Adin Hill and Laurent Brossoit are from B.C. — the former is from Comox, while the latter was born in Port Alberni.

“It’s just awesome, it’s unbelievable, I can’t even imagine we’re here,” Theodore told Sportsnet’s Kyle Bukauskas post-win on June 13, 2023.

“My family’s here so it’s pretty special to have them here for it. I’m definitely looking forward to bringing the cup back home.”

Theodore’s first Stanley Cup win came just a few years after he was diagnosed with and beat cancer.

“I’m definitely grateful for every day and especially for a day like today,” he added.

The Golden Knights’ win was a first for the six-year-old franchise, which has only missed the playoffs once since joining the NHL prior to the 2017-18 season.

Vegas took the series against Florida in five games, 4-1.
