Kookipi Creek wildfire evacuation order downgraded
The evacuation order for the Kookipi Creek Wildfire in the Nahatlatch River area near Boston Bar has been downgraded to an evacuation alert, the Fraser Valley Regional District (FVRD) announced Monday afternoon.
The order had been in place since Aug. 17.

“FVRD is grateful for all the efforts of the BC Wildfire Service and deployed firefighters,” said Samantha Piper, public information officer for the Fraser Valley Regional District. “Because of their tireless efforts, the wildfire incident commander has recommended the evacuation order downgrade to an evacuation alert.”

FVRD cautions that this could change back to an evacuation order with short notice.

“While the evacuation order is being downgraded, areas within the evacuation alert remain hazardous from poor road conditions, danger trees, post-fire hazards and other risks,” the district said. “The danger of wildfire may reoccur (caused by new ignitions, lightning strikes, or a change in the prevailing winds, for example) and an evacuation order may need to be reissued.”

The FVRD said BC Wildfire service will continue working until the fire is contained, and they may have active helicopters in the area.
