Hullo launches event-specific ferry sailings starting with Beyoncé concert

Beyoncé fans travelling to Vancouver from the Island for the superstar’s concert on Monday will have another option to get home if they don’t want to spend the night.

Hullo says it has added an 11:30 p.m. ferry sailing for Sept. 11 to get concert-goers back to Vancouver Island once the show wraps up so they can “enjoy the comforts of your own bed without missing a beat.”

The additional sailing is later than the last one BC Ferries offers to Nanaimo on Monday night, with the company’s last boat leaving Horseshoe Bay for Departure Bay scheduled at 10:40 p.m.

The new high-speed passenger ferry service between Vancouver and Nanaimo announced earlier this summer that it would be launching late-night sailings for “special events in Vancouver” this fall.

Hullo began offering its service in mid-August, though it didn’t come without its challenges.

The company’s inaugural trips were cancelled due to weather and a power outage experienced at the berth in Nanaimo.

Travel time between the mainland and Vancouver Island is estimated to be about 70 minutes on Hullo — almost a half hour faster than a BC Ferries service from Horseshoe Bay to Nanaimo.
