Pedestrian dies after being hit by car in Langley, alcohol believed to be a factor: RCMP

The Langley RCMP says a 24-year-old woman has died after she was hit by a car Thursday night.

Investigators say while the cause of the collision is still being determined, “alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor.”

Officers were called to the area of 64 Avenue and 258 Street just after 7 p.m.

When they arrived, paramedics and fire crews “were providing emergency first aid to the pedestrian.” Despite their efforts, police say the woman died of her injuries at the scene.

According to police, the driver of the vehicle — a 2018 BMW — stayed at the scene, and is cooperating with the investigation.

The RCMP says initial details suggest the BMW was heading west on 64 Avenue when the driver lost control just before 258 Street. The vehicle is believed to have then swerved, hitting the woman who was walking west on the shoulder.

The investigation has now been taken over by the Langley RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team.

Police are asking anyone with information to contact the RCMP at 604-532-3200.
