The annual BC Law Enforcement Memorial (BCLEM) Service is taking place Sunday, two days after the death of Ridge Meadows RCMP officer Rick O’Brien.
The service is being held in Victoria at the site of “The Bastion” memorial, which displays the names of sworn police or peace officers in B.C. who died “as a result of an external influence” while on duty.
Today's #BCLEM Service will commence at 1300hrs, and will be livestreamed on our YouTube account:https://t.co/5G0nHVI8ml

The event was established in 2019 to coincide with the National Police and Peace Officers’ Memorial in Ottawa, set for the last Sunday of September in every year. The Canada-wide event was created by the Solicitor General of Canada in 1998 to give Canadians an opportunity to express appreciation for those who put themselves at risk every day to protect the public.
This year’s service comes a day after the wrap-up of the two-day Ride to Remember run, which is also held yearly to remember officers who have died in the line of duty.
