Ladner church’s Pride flags targeted again, police say

Police in Delta say Ladner United Church was targeted again by mischief for its Pride flags.

According to the Delta Police Department (DPD), an “unknown male” was seen on security footage smashing two windows where Pride flags were hanging.

The suspect was wearing dark clothing, a mask, and a hat at the time of the incident, and was riding a bike.

“The Ladner United Church has experienced several other mischiefs in the past where the Pride flags are the target of the damage,” police note.

In some cases, Pride flags were targeted with black paint. In 2019, vandalism prompted the church to increase security.

The church has also seen people cut down its Pride flags when they were hung externally.

Earlier this year, Ladner United Church was “love bombed” after its Progress Pride and Pride flags were targeted with paint.

It’s unclear if this latest incident is related to the other instances of mischief.

Police say the suspect in the Sept. 22 window smashing was riding a “unique” bike.

“The bicycle has fenders, light-coloured brake lines, light-coloured shocks, on a dark-framed bike,” the DPD said.
