The Nanaimo RCMP says it’s now investigating the fatal overdose of a 52-year-old woman as a homicide.
According to investigators, Wendy Head died in a home in the city on March 7.
They say that since her death, “further information has come to light.”
“Our Serious Crime Unit has taken a deep dive into it and they now are treating that death as a homicide,” explained Nanaimo RCMP Const. Gary O’Brien.
He notes Head was from North Cowichan. The RCMP is not providing any further information as to why she was in Nanaimo or any other details about her background.
“All we can tell you is that she died as a result of a fatal overdose. There’s information that’s been brought forward to us that it was a homicide and we are actively investigating it,” O’Brien said.
“What we do know is that there are individuals on Vancouver Island who we believe have information that can further this investigation and we need to speak with them.”
The Nanaimo RCMP is asking anyone with information about Head’s death to contact investigators at 250-755-3257.
