Lower Mainland Remembrance Day ceremonies

People across the Lower Mainland will pause on Remembrance Day to honour those who served and sacrificed their lives for their country.
Nov. 11 is a national day of contemplation, with the traditional motto to ‘never forget’ the sacrifices, conflicts, and missions, that people in service have faced, and continue to face.
Here is a list of Remembrance Day events and parades taking place across the Lower Mainland:
Abbotsford
Service
Where: Thunderbird Memorial Square – 32388 Veterans Way
Join the Royal Canadian Legion Abbotsford Branch #15 at Thunderbird Memorial Square for a tribute to remember the contributions of those who have proudly served our country in war.

Ceremony and procession
Where: 250 Willingdon Ave.
Two services and parades will take place in Burnaby at Confederation Park and Bonsor Park.

Ceremony and procession
Where: 9291 Corbould St.
Several events will be taking place across Chilliwack in honour of Remembrance Day.
The service begins at Evergreen Hall with the ceremony following at Veteran’s Memorial Park.

The procession begins at the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #295 and will continue at All Sappers Memorial Park.

Procession and events
Several events will be taking place across Langley, presented by the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #265 at the Aldergrove Legion.

Ceremony
The service will include two minutes of silence, acts of Remembrance, laying of the wreaths and more.

Ceremony
The ceremony will take place at the Mission Legion and after the ceremony, there will be a wreath laying followed by entertainment and food.

Service and parade
The ceremony will include a wreath pick-up, parade and outdoor service with limited seating for seniors and those with mobility issues.

Ceremony
The Legion will return to the cenotaph as Veterans and officials march through for the ceremony. There is also no seating in the ceremony, reserved chairs are for veterans and those requiring accessible seating.

Veterans and officials will parade along Shaughnessy St. to Wilson Ave. and end at the Veterans Park for a wreath-laying service.

The Port Moody legion is hosting a parade that ends with a cenotaph for the official act of remembrance, followed by the laying of the wreaths.

The service will include a parade with members of the Royal Canadian Legion and Army, Navy, Air Force Veterans in Canada, Richmond’s permanent Canadian Forces Unit 39 Service Battalion, representation from public safety agencies, and cadet organizations. The ceremony will also be streamed online on their website.

The Remembrance Day Service at Victory Square is the oldest continuing ceremony in Vancouver and is organized by the Vancouver Remembrance Day Committee.
