Vancouver’s Robson Square ice rink opens for the season

The skating rink at Robson Square opened to the public on Friday. Angela Bower laces up her skates and joins eager Vancouverites taking to the ice.

Lace up those skates, the Robson Square Ice Rink is now open for the season.

It is Vancouver’s only outdoor ice rink and has been running during the holidays since the 1980s.

Downtown Vancouver Business Association Director of Operations Joshua Davidson says the rink has become a representation of the holiday season in downtown Vancouver.

“Whether you are a seasoned skater or a novice taking your first steps on the ice, the rink is a welcoming place for all,” he said.

CityNews caught up with a few skaters, and some couldn’t wait to get out on the ice.

“We’re here to go skating on our lunch break,” one local said.

“It gives us something to do when it gets dark,” another added.

The ice rink is open every day until the end of February, which means people can even go for a skate on Christmas Day.

Taking to the ice won’t cost a dime, but anyone looking to rent skates will have to pay the small fee of $5.

Live music is on its way to the Robson Square Ice Rink as well, starting Dec. 13.
