$5.4 million in repairs coming to Cache Creek crossing: province

B.C. is spending $5.4 million to repair the Cache Creek crossing near Kamloops.

According to an announcement made Tuesday, work on the Cache Creek Crossing Restoration Project is scheduled to start within the next few weeks.

“Travellers passing through Cache Creek will soon have a safer, more reliable journey,” the province stated in a release.

“In addition to improving travel for Cache Creek residents, the upgrades will improve the resilience and reliability of the vital Highway 97 corridor.”

The project includes the construction of a four-lane bridge to replace the culvert under Hwy 97 and allow water and debris to flow through. Crews will also work to realign and widen the creek below.

Officials say this work will help accommodate water flow increases brought forth by climate change, as well as the bridge withstanding erosion and maintaining structural stability.

The province says drivers should be able to make their way across it by the end of August 2024. In the meantime, it asks travellers to watch for construction and traffic workers when driving through the area.
