Air Canada fined more than $97K for violating accessible transportation regulations

Air Canada has been fined $97,500, after a B.C. man with a disability was forced to drag himself off of a flight.

The Canadian Transportation Agency says the fine was issued due to “several violations” of Canada’s accessible transportation regulations.

On Aug. 30, a Prince George resident who uses a wheelchair was forced to drag himself off an Air Canada flight in Las Vegas when airline staff failed to assist him.

The agency says the man has spastic cerebral palsy and can’t move his legs. Once he made it to the terminal, the agency says Air Canada staff also failed to check-in with him periodically about his needs.

Air Canada has 30 days to request a review before the Transportation Appeal Tribunal of Canada.
