The issues that caused widespread delays at Vancouver International Airport Sunday are now being resolved, according to YVR.
Flight schedules are returning to posted schedules, the airport says.
The delays were a result of “resource constraints,” NAV Canada had said Christmas Eve.
But this has been resolved, the air navigation manager service says.
“The flow of traffic at YVR has now returned to normal levels and the NAV CANADA team is continuing to keep everyone moving safely and efficiently,” NAV Canada posted on X Christmas Day. “Passengers should check the status of their flight with their airline.”
The delays came at an incredibly busy time for the airport. Earlier this week, YVR president Tamara Vrooman told CityNews the airport expects two million travelers to pass through it during the month of December.
These delays echo similar issues experienced by NAV Canada this summer. Between June and July, YVR announced on four separate occasions that its flights were experiencing disruptions due to “resource constraints” within NAV Canada.
In July, NAV Canada told CityNews it was training hundreds of new employees to deal with its shortage of air traffic controllers.
At the time, the union representing air traffic controllers stated that constant delays are a symptom of overly-demanding work conditions for those in the profession.
YVR says some delays may still occur, and passengers should continue to check the status of flights with their airlines or on yvr.ca.
