Mission hospital closes ER due to burst pipes

Mission Memorial Hospital issued an alert Saturday evening, saying it has closed its emergency room because of flooding.

Fraser Health says the extreme cold weather caused pipes to burst in the unit, resulting in damage.

Fraser Health said patients needing urgent help should go to emergency departments at Ridge Meadows Hospital, Abbotsford Regional, Langley Memorial, or Chilliwack General.

It says the rest of Mission Memorial was unaffected.

The alert says the diversion will remain until the damage is assessed and repaired.

Meanwhile, CityNews has received a report of a similar issue at Carelife Fleetwood Seniors’ Home in Surrey, and has reached out to Fraser Health for more information.
