Demonstrators gather for Pro-Palestinian rally at Vancouver Art Gallery

By CityNews Staff

A pro-Palestinian demonstration was held outside the Vancouver Art Gallery Saturday afternoon.

Videos posted on social media show a large crowd of people holding umbrellas, flags, and signs while chanting in protest of the Israel-Hamas war.

A post online shows the event called for demonstrators to gather at 1 p.m., calling the demonstration “Mass rally for Palestine, end the genocide, hands off Yemen.”

Several similar rallies have been held over the past month, including a car convoy demonstration that drove from John Hendry Park at Trout Lake to Vancouver Community College’s Broadway campus Jan. 12.

On Jan. 6, hundreds of people gathered near Science World for a rally and then marched through the area.

On Dec. 30, demonstrators hung banners in multiple locations around Vancouver. Banners were unfurled over the Georgia Viaduct, the Granville Street bridge, and at the corner of Hastings and Commercial, one of the organizers of the event, Charlotte Samidoun, told CityNews at the time.

Another pro-Palestinian rally is scheduled for Sunday, but this one is planned to be held in Burnaby.
