Man charged after assault of crown prosecutor in Vancouver

Charges have been laid after a crown prosecutor and another woman were assaulted in Vancouver on Friday.
A 27-year-old man is facing two assault charges after a seemingly “random” incident in which a crown prosecutor was attacked on their way to work, the BC Prosecution Service says.
The attack happened near the provincial courthouse on Main Street around 9 a.m., BCPS states.
Police say a second attack also happened around the same time and place, near Hastings Street and Columbia Street.
According to court documents, Kenyon Thomas Lavallee made his first court appearance for a bail hearing Friday evening.
Lavallee will remain in custody ahead of an upcoming Vancouver provincial court appearance Monday morning.
In response to news of the attack, Premier David Eby said he was “profoundly disturbed” to hear a prosecutor had been assaulted.
The premier explained that in order for the justice system to work, everyone who keeps it running must be kept safe while they’re on the job.
He added that he was reaching out to B.C. Attorney General Niki Sharma to look at what the province can to do to “increase safety.”
