A New Westminster nurse is facing suspension for assaulting a “vulnerable person under his care” in the emergency room at the Royal Columbian Hospital last August.
In a notice last week, the BC College of Nurses and Midwives (BCCNM) said Errol Latchman, a registered nurse, “threw activated charcoal at the patient and assaulted them in the face with a closed fist.”
Activated charcoal is commonly used in emergency rooms for overdose or poisoning treatments.
The college says the patient assaulted Latchman first.
A consent agreement was made between BCCNM and Latchman to suspend his registration for one month.
According to BCCNM, Latchman must also “complete comprehensive remedial courses in anger management and ethics.”
