Annual Michael Dunahee ‘Keep the Hope Alive’ walk/run set for Sunday

People in Victoria are being invited to take part in the annual Michael Dunahee ‘Keep the Hope Alive’ Walk/Run Sunday on the anniversary of his disappearance.

The four-year-old vanished from the Blanshard School playground in Victoria — just a short distance from his parents — on March 24, 1991, and the case has been actively pursued ever since.

Every year, his family hosts a five kilometre walk/run to keep his memory alive and in the hopes that he will be seen again.

“Michael’s family has turned their tragedy into a grassroots effort to protect other families,” organizers of the event said in a news release.

“The annual Michael Dunahee ‘Keep The Hope Alive’ Walk/Run has been a fixture in our community. Each year, families run or walk to mark Michael’s disappearance and highlight the ongoing search.”

Three years ago, to mark the 30th year of his disappearance, Victoria police launched a specific tips website dedicated to the case.

They say they continue to sift through hundreds of responses.

Anyone interested in participating in the run can visit the event website.

The investigation into the preschooler’s disappearance remains one of the largest missing person investigations in Canada.
