The Price is high? Gameshow’s Vancouver prize pack turns heads

What would you consider a bargain for an all-expenses paid trip to Vancouver?

In a The Price is Right segment called “Bargain Game” Monday, the city was one of two which contestants had to pick between as the destination listed for the biggest deal.

Vancouver had a “bargain” price of $7,770 USD, which included a round-trip flight in economy for two from L.A. to YVR for a six-night stay in the harbour view guest room at The Westin Bayshore. The trip also came with daily breakfast, a $200 dining credit, daily spa treatments, and a private craft beer tasting tour for two.

The second option listed was a trip to Montenegro for $11,278 USD. The “bargain” was for a round-trip flight in economy for two from L.A. to Podgorica, a rental car to Ulcinj, and a six-night stay in a premium suite at the Hotel Mediteran. Daily breakfast, a three-course dinner, and a personalized boat tour were also included.

The contestant chose the Montenegro option as being the bigger bargain, and was right. The actual cost for the trip to Vancouver was listed as $9,770 USD, while the Montenegro trip had an actual cost of $17,278 USD.

This isn’t the first time the Lower Mainland has made an appearance on the popular gameshow. Last year, New Westminster became a talking point, after a contestant named Phillip guessed wrong and lost a trip to the city.

Phillip had to correctly guess how much a trip to the Royal City would cost, but he overestimated the value by $3,000 USD. Host Drew Carey’s response grabbed a lot of attention online.

“That’s way less than I thought it was going to be, we haven’t had a $5,000 trip in a while,” Carey said during the November episode. “Philip, don’t blame yourself for that one, that was a tough one.”

But Phillip didn’t lose out after all. The City of New Westminster invited the Price is Right contestant to visit for free in December, after launching the #SearchForPhillip campaign.
