‘Hold and secure’ at 2 Pitt Meadows schools ends after police incident

By CityNews Staff

A “hold and secure” at two Pitt Meadows schools has ended after a police incident near the facilities Wednesday afternoon.

The Ridge Meadows RCMP tells CityNews officers received “a suspicious call from a male posing as a resident” in the area near Davie Jones Elementary and Pitt Meadows Elementary around 11:30 a.m.

“Out of an abundance of caution, police held and secured the areas … and provided support and precautionary resources,” police said in an email.

“With assistance from the Lower Mainland Integrated Emergency Response Team and the Integrated Police Dog Service, police attended the residence from which the male caller claimed he lived and determined that any threat was unfounded. The schools were held from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m., when police released the scene.”

School district officials said just after 1:30 p.m. that the hold and secures were in place due to a “police situation in the neighbourhood.”

“Students and staff are safe, and instruction continues,” School District 42 said in a social media post.

In an update just before 2 p.m., the district announced the measure had been lifted.
