No injuries reported in ‘hazardous situation’ near Vaisakhi parade route in Surrey: RCMP

Mounties say there were no injuries after they responded to what they are describing as a “hazardous situation” in Surrey.

Police say a scissor lift that was parked on private property came into contact with some wires in the area of Anvil Way and 128th Street.

This was near the route of the Vaisakhi parade, which wrapped up at 5 p.m.

Surrey Fire, BC Emergency Health Services, Bylaw Services, and BC Hydro came to the scene.

“First responders cleared the parade crowd from the area around the hazard, making it safe until BC Hydro attended,” the RCMP said.

“Out of an abundance of caution, and in coordination with parade organizers, the parade was halted and the crowd safely dispersed leading up to the conclusion of the event.”

The Surrey RCMP estimates more than half a million people attended the parade.

No other issues were reported.
