North Shore Rescue called out to help hiker with ankle injury

Rescue crews were called out to North Vancouver Friday afternoon for an injured hiker.

North Shore Rescue says the hiker sustained an injury on the Cedar Tree Trail.

“The hiker was hiking with some friends when she injured her ankle and realized she was unable to walk,” NSR said in a Facebook post.

“A group of two other hikers came upon them and attempted to assist her down the trail, however it became apparent that hiking her back to the parking lot was not going to work.”

They ultimately decided to call 911, and NSR says it responded with both ground and air crews.

“Ground crews accessed the subject, provided first aid, and started moving her to a suitable long line extraction spot,” NSR said.

“An air crew was inserted via long line and hiked to the group’s location, [which] was now in a creek bed.”

The hiker was given an ankle boot. She was then pulled out by helicopter to the Bone Creek SAR station.

NSR is thanking the hikers who stopped to help the injured person.
