West Vancouver transit union ratifies Collective Agreement with employer

Unionized drivers and mechanics with the Blue Bus system have voted 88 per cent in favour of ratifying a new 2-year collective agreement with their employer on Wednesday.

The deal was between members of Amalgamated Transit Union Local 1-34 and the District of West Vancouver.

Last week, members had voted 96 per cent in favour of strike action, but ATU Local 134 said union members were pleased with the results of the “intense bargaining” that took place.

“We want to thank all of our union members for their strong support and all of our valued riders in the West Vancouver district for their backing in our efforts to negotiate a fair collective agreement,” President Cornel Neagu at ATU Local 134 said.

“We are pleased to reach a new contract without being forced to take job action.”

In a statement, the union says it looks forward to providing even better transit service for riders with the improvements made to working conditions.

ATU Local 134 has 150 members who operate and maintain the Blue Bus system of 64 buses. The union says it transports about 18,000 passenger trips per day.
