Dog run over by dump truck, North Vancouver police looking for driver

The North Vancouver RCMP is asking for the public’s help to identify a vehicle after its driver allegedly drove over a dog Friday morning.

On May 17, police received a call about a dog that was run over by a “commercial vehicle” at the intersection of West 3rd Street and Forbes Avenue around 11 a.m.

Police say a leashed dog and its walker were waiting to cross the intersection when a turning vehicle, described as a “dump truck,” jumped the curb and ran over the dog.

In a release Tuesday, the RCMP confirmed, “Sadly, the dog named Sweety did not survive its injuries.”

The truck reportedly did not stop after the collision and continued south on Forbes Avenue.

“The owners of Sweety are devastated by the loss of their pet,” said Const. Mansoor Sahak.

“Our investigation is ongoing and it is too early to tell if the driver intentionally fled the scene or if they had any knowledge of the collision at the time of the incident.”

If you were driving or walking in the area at the time of the incident and you have information or dashcam footage, investigators are asking you to call 604-985-1311 and quote file #24-9578.
