Vancouver Island driver dead after vehicle runs off highway into water

Mounties on Vancouver Island are trying to piece together what caused a deadly crash over the weekend.

The Campbell River RCMP says the crash happened before 12:30 a.m. Sunday along the Gold River Highway between Campbell River and Strathcona Lodge.

Police say a passing motorist had noticed that the barriers along the highway were “out of place.”

“Upon further investigation a vehicle was located fully submerged in water. Tragically, one person did not survive,” Snr. Sgt. Kris Clark shared.

Witnesses or drivers with dashcam footage are being asked to get in touch with the Campbell River RCMP.
