A Vancouver Island man who went missing on Tuesday was safely found Friday following a massive three-day search involving numerous family members and search and rescue teams.
Ultimately, it was his mother who found him.
The 29-year-old man was last seen around a wooded area near Horne Lake Road in Qualicum Bay.
Ken Neden with Arrowsmith Search and Rescue says the search began Wednesday morning. After not seeing any sign of the man at first, searchers did eventually find some footprints.
Neden says they had search and rescue reinforcements come in from other organizations, first from Comox and Nanaimo and then from all of Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland.
In total, they had between 50 and 60 searchers looking for the man.
“And we were actually getting to the point we were starting to gear up for a major push on the weekend. But fortunately, his mother was going down a logging road — there’s quite a bit of family around — and she was calling out, and then he answered her.”
He adds when found, the man appeared physically fine, but was taken to hospital for further evaluation.
