Metro Vancouver Regional District crews were busy overnight Wednesday removing a massive amount of grease blockage from sewer lines in Richmond.
Sections of Hollybridge Way and Lansdowne Road were blocked as the district removed what’s called a ‘fatberg.’
Metro Vancouver says the fatberg is more than 70 cubic metres — the equivalent of seven dump trucks full.
In a post to social media, the district shows it needed to be sucked out with hydrovac trucks.
Metro Vancouver is reminding you to not put any types of grease or oil down the drain — instead it says you should wipe it up and put in your green bin.
“Metro Vancouver and its member jurisdictions spend $2.7 million every year to repair damage caused by fats, oils, and grease in the sewer system. And that’s not counting the costs to individual homeowners to fix clogged pipes,” the district’s website said.
